Geo rules and Global Privacy Control

Different laws ask for different banners. ClearCrumb picks the right one for each visitor.

United States Opt-out: allowed until the visitor says no Preferences · Do not sell or share my info · OK

How the country is found

The banner asks your site once per visit through a small request that is never cached. Your server reads the country from Cloudflare or your host’s header. Without such a header, the visitor’s time zone decides. Because this happens in the browser, a cached page never shows the wrong banner.

On Cloudflare, the country header is there by default. For per-US-state rules in Pro, turn on “Add visitor location headers” under Rules → Managed Transforms.

Global Privacy Control

Some browsers and extensions send a GPC signal that means “do not sell or share my data”. When a US visitor’s browser sends it, ClearCrumb saves an opt-out of marketing automatically and shows a short note instead of the banner. Several US state laws require this.

Change the rules

Go to ClearCrumb → Banner → Regions. You can turn geo rules off to show the opt-in banner to everyone, which is the strictest setup.
