Getting started with ClearCrumb

ClearCrumb needs WordPress 6.4 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. There is no account to create and nothing to connect.

1. Install

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New and search for ClearCrumb.
  2. Click Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Open ClearCrumb in the admin menu. The dashboard shows a Set up card until you finish the wizard.

2. Run the setup wizard

The wizard has five steps. Each step saves when you click Continue, so you can stop and come back.

  1. Region. Choose how visitors outside the EU and US are treated. EU/EEA, UK and Swiss visitors always get opt-in; US visitors get opt-out.
  2. Scan. ClearCrumb opens up to 50 of your pages in a hidden frame and lists the cookies and services it finds. You can skip this and scan later.
  3. Services. Everything the scan found is ticked. Untick what you do not use. Each service waits for consent in its category unless you switch that off.
  4. Design. Pick a layout, a preset and a button colour while watching the live preview.
  5. Done. Create your cookie policy page with one click, then view your site.
Your banner is now live for visitors. Logged-in admins see it too, so you can check it. Open a private window to see it as a new visitor.

3. Check your work

  • Run the Leak Test to confirm nothing optional loads before consent.
  • Open the dashboard and look at your Compliance Score. Each failing check has a Fix link.
  • Add a Cookie settings link to your footer with the block or the [clearcrumb_preferences] shortcode, so visitors can change their mind. The floating button does the same job.
ClearCrumb helps you meet consent rules. It is not legal advice; ask a lawyer about your own situation.
